The 5.5 acre site is located at the center of a detached tourist development reliant on seasonal beach culture and outsiders for activity. The beach city desperately needs a public infrastructure to bring year round residents and tourist populations together. As a central part of the proposal, a new hotel and cultural center enlivens one end of the dilapidated park and acts as a hinge linking the old city of Gandia, new beach developments, and a nature preserve. The proposal uses new civic, commercial, and cultural spaces to develop the park as a space of urban engagement. The hotel towers create a large public space that acts as an activity point for various groups. Within a larger urban plan for a connecting greenway back to the old city, the hotel becomes an important node offering an alternative to the beachfront and bringing new development to the backside of the linear beach town.
